Motorcyclist in Seal Beach seriously injured in hit-and-run crash

With any kind of auto accident -- whether it involves a truck, SUV or a car -- there is the potential for serious injury. Motorcycle accidents, however, are especially dangerous, given the lack of protection for riders. Drivers of larger vehicles often fail to see motorcyclists, and the consequences can be devastating.

A recent hit-and-run accident in Seal Beach has left a motorcyclist with serious injuries. The crash happened on Sept. 5, and the driver of a pickup truck apparently left the scene of the accident on foot after turning into the path of the motorcycle.

When police arrived on the scene, they found the motorcycle in an intersection on Pacific Coast Highway. The injured rider was given treatment at the scene and then taken to a hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the pickup truck was nowhere in sight.

Police from Huntington Beach and Seal Beach combed the area in search of the driver. The 31-year-old Bakersfield man was finally found and arrested after a person living in the area overheard him talking on his phone and telling someone about the crash.

The pickup driver was charged with DUI causing injury and hit and run. Investigators believe the full-size truck and the motorcycle were travelling in opposite directions when the driver of the truck tried to turn left into a private driveway.

Injured victims of negligent driving should be aware of their options for receiving compensation for damages. A single ride in an ambulance can make a huge dent in a person's finances, and no one who has been injured by another party's negligence should be saddled with money troubles in addition to physical injuries.
