California motorcyclist killed in serious auto accident

Serious auto accidents involving motorcycles in California rarely turn out well for the motorcyclist. A motorcyclist does not have the protection that an individual in a vehicle has, such as seat belts, air bags and the vehicle frame. A Santa Cruz motorcyclist was even recently killed in a serious auto accident involving a suspected hit-and-run driver from Ventura.

Police responded to the scene of the accident, and discovered that the driver of a sedan involved in the accident had fled the scene. Responding officers requested additional units, such as K-9 patrols, to search for the fleeing suspect. The officers were unable to locate the driver.

Apparently, the driver of the sedan was headed westbound on the highway, and turned into the path of a motorcycle headed eastbound. Once the vehicle halted on the edge of the road, the driver supposedly fled. Several days later, the suspected driver of the sedan turned himself into authorities.

Authorities have much work to do in order to fully understand the events surrounding this crash in California. It is unknown at this time what caused the driver of the sedan to turn into the path of the motorcycle. Grieving families may want to understand their options as they begin to cope with this tragic accident. The law allows punitive damages to be awarded to victims of hit-and-run accidents where an individual has suffered serious personal injury. Successful litigation could help with compensation from the insurance company or the liable driver, in order to ease the burden of medical expenses resulting from this serious auto accident in California.
