Serious auto accident leaves pregnant California woman dead

The loss of a loved one may never be an easy thing to overcome, but losing a pregnant family member or friend might be even more difficult. A serious auto accident resulted in the tragic loss of a pregnant woman in her mid-20s. While the investigation is ongoing, police have asserted that the driver that caused the wreck was likely drunk at the time.

The deadly California accident occurred at almost 1 a.m. A 26-year-old Bakersfield man was reportedly driving drunk when his pickup truck collided head-on with another vehicle. One passenger in the vehicle that was struck was killed, and the driver and another passenger in that vehicle suffered injuries due to the wreck.

The passenger who lost her life was a 25-year-old woman. A coroner later confirmed that she was pregnant. The driver of the pickup truck was arrested and now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter as well as a DUI that caused serious injury.

Police are pushing forward with the investigation surrounding this serious auto accident. In the meantime, the deceased victim's family and friends may be struggling with what actions to take next. The loss of a pregnant loved one after an accident such as this is surely overwhelming. In California, the deceased victim's surviving family members retain the right to initiate a wrongful death lawsuit in connection with the fatal accident. This type of legal proceeding is typically brought in a California civil court, and any conviction achieved against the accused man in criminal court may advance the cause of the family in seeking financial relief as a result of the tragedy.
