1 woman killed in car accident, others injured

A wreck on the shoulder of a California freeway involved multiple vehicles and injuries. Sadly, one person was also killed in the car accident. It is unclear whether the driver that caused the wreck is facing any charges yet.

Shortly before 2 p.m., two pickup trucks that had been traveling together pulled over to the shoulder of 5 Freeway. Part of the group exited the vehicles in order to inspect the ties that they had used to secure a boat and multiple motorcycles. As they were checking everything, the 24-year-old driver of an SUV drifted out of his lane and onto the shoulder, where he struck a female who was standing behind the rear vehicle.

A man who had exited the vehicle as well as one of the pickup's passengers were injured by debris from the collision. The driver of the SUV as well as his passenger were also injured, and all four had to be taken to a local hospital. Sadly, the woman who was initially struck was killed while still at the scene of the accident. Traffic was backed up until 7 p.m., when the freeway was reopened.

When facing off against a motor vehicle, an individual has an enormous disadvantage, and the end result is often disastrous. The family of this California woman who was killed likely understands how unexpected funeral or medical costs can create a burden on top of grieving the loss of a loved one lost in a car accident. In order to seek damages on behalf of her estate, they may choose to pursue a wrongful death claim that, if successfully litigated, can provide critical compensation. Those who were injured in the wreck also retain the legal right to pursue damages, although this would be accomplished through litigating a personal injury claim.
