Navy member accused of DUI following fatal car accident

Certain activities can put a person's life at risk, such as walking on busy highway or driving over the speed limit. However, most people in California likely feel relatively safe while at a festival located below a highway bridge. Unfortunately, several people recently lost their lives in a car accident involving a vehicle that plunged over a bridge into a crowd attending a festival below.

The incident happened in mid-October. According to reports, a 25-year-old member of the Navy lost control of his pickup truck. As a result, his truck plunged off a bridge, landing on a vendor booth at a festival.

Four people, ages 46 to 52, were crushed in the accident and passed away. Additionally, eight other people at the festival suffered injuries. The driver is hospitalized with serious injuries. He currently faces several charges as a result of the accident, including vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Family members in California are never fully prepared for news that a loved one lost his or her life in a preventable accident. Despite their grief, they are often left to handle a precarious financial situation as they face funeral expenses and the loss of wages. If their loss was the result of a car accident caused by another's negligence, they have the option of seeking recompense in a civil court. If they successfully argue their case, they could receive a monetary award to help them cope with the financial fallout of their loss, allowing them to focus on their emotional recovery.
