Hit-and-run car accident kills pedestrian in California

Walking has become a popular means of travel for many people. With traffic increasing daily, as well as high prices of fuel, some people have opted to travel via the sidewalk. There are some risks involved with walking near traffic, as a car accident involving a pedestrian often results in serious injury, and in some cases, death. A man was recently arrested for a hit-and-run accident in California that resulted in the death of a 75-year-old pedestrian.

The accident occurred late at night, when a man driving a sedan hit and killed a nearby pedestrian. The driver of the sedan did not remain at the scene, and the 75-year-old man died at the scene shortly after. Police were able to locate the driver at a nearby apartment complex and took him into custody on suspicion of hit-and-run causing death.

There have been no indications of drunken or distracted driving so far. Had the driver stayed at the scene and attempted to help the man, the outcome may have been different. Leaving the scene of an accident can often lead to suspicion of guilt, and is never advisable. If the driver is found to be at fault in the accident, the family of the victim may choose to seek restitution for losses through the civil justice system.

Families who suffer the loss of a loved one in a car accident often face many hardships. Medical and funeral costs can be extensive, resulting in significant financial burden. If the accident is caused by a negligent driver, a claim may be sought against him or her. When facing a similar circumstance, families of victims in California often seek the advice of an attorney on how to proceed with a wrongful death claim.
