Car accident kills 2 after driver fails to obey stop sign

A family should never have to endure the loss of a loved one at the hands of a negligent driver. Drunk drivers have been the cause of many fatal accidents over the years. Those operating vehicles under the influence of drugs or alcohol may find it difficult, if not impossible, to respond in time to avoid collisions. A recent car accident under similar circumstances has claimed the lives of two people in California.

The accident occurred just after 8 p.m., when an eastbound pickup truck suddenly collided with an SUV at an intersection. Early investigation suggests that the truck driver failed to obey a stop sign, which lead to the fatal collision. An adult man and a teenager in the SUV were both killed in the crash. The pickup driver was taken to the hospital shortly thereafter for evaluation.

Police have indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor to the collision. Further investigation will likely determine why the driver seemingly ignored the traffic sign. If he is found to have been intoxicated at the time, he may be held financially responsible for his actions through the civil justice system, apart from whatever responsibility he may face in criminal court.

Understandably, losing a loved one in a tragic car accident is devastating. Surviving family members often face periods of significant financial struggle following such an event, prompting many to seek restitution for losses by filing a claim against the party deemed culpable. Since the process can be complex, families in California often speak with an experienced attorney for assistance in filing a wrongful death claim.
