The possibility of wrongful death concerning misdiagnosis

When it comes to a serious health issue, properly identifying and treating the condition in a timely manner can be the difference between life and death. With a great number of medical conditions presenting similar symptoms, correctly diagnosing a condition is often crucial to preventing a patient from suffering further harm. A misdiagnosis can be dangerous and, over the years, has ultimately lead to the wrongful death of countless individuals in California and across the country.

A recent study suggests that more than 20 percent of patients that visit the hospital with a severe medical condition are misdiagnosed. The study includes a significant number of patients who have chosen to seek a second opinion from some of the nation's leading specialists. The study also concluded that around 12 percent of the patients received an initial diagnosis that was close to the second conclusion, but not exact.

With a vast amount of known diseases and only a few hundred symptoms in relation, the process of diagnosing and treating these conditions can be challenging. However, patients expect medical professionals, with their years of extensive training and access to the most-recent technology, to be capable of correctly identifying their conditions. A misdiagnosis can lead to improper treatment, which poses the risk of doing more harm than good.

Many families across the country have experienced the loss of a loved on due to misdiagnosis. If a medical professional and/or facility is deemed culpable in the loss, a family may be entitled to restitution accordingly. Since the process can be challenging, families in California may seek assistance from an experienced attorney for advice on how to file a wrongful death claim.
